Roughers to serve as Grand Marshal of the Christmas Parade

It has been since 1986 that the Muskogee Roughers have won a football state championship. The team has made it to the semi-final game on numerous occasions throughout this 37-year drought, but this year they would not be denied.

The Muskogee Roughers went 11-2 and are the 2023 6AII Oklahoma State Champions. They played the Stillwater Pioneers in the state championship game on Friday, December 1st at Chad Richison Stadium on the University of Central Oklahoma campus.

The Muskogee Rougher football team will serve as the Grand Marshal of this year’s Christmas Parade which is being held on Monday, December 11th. The team will be riding two parade floats and will be sharing their State Championship trophy with the community. The team will be joined by the Muskogee spirit squads as they celebrate bringing home the gold ball.

The team will be at the front of the parade which will begin at 6:00 p.m.

This auction will run from Monday, November 13 – Thursday, November 16th at 2 p.m. Bids are accepted in-person, by email, at enrollment@roughers.net, or via phone at 918-684-3722.

To place a bid the following information is needed: 

1. The item number 

2. Your employee ID number, if you do not have one, we will assign you a bidder number 3. The bid amount 

4. If placing an automatic or max bid, you will need to indicate that or the bid will be accepted as the next bid amount. 

All auction items must be paid and claimed no later than Monday, November 20, 2023, or the next highest bidder will be contacted. 

Payments are accepted via cash or check. ***We do not accept cards at this time.***

Order of Parade Participants

The Homecoming Coronation will be part of Friday night’s varsity football game festivities at Rougher Village on October 6, 2023. The attendants will be presented at the Rougher’s Homecoming Parade, in downtown Muskogee at 2:30 P.M. The Parade staging area is at the corner of N. 6th St. and Denison Ave. The parade will start down Denison Ave, turning on N. 2nd St., and moving up W. Broadway St. where it will turn onto N. 6th St. reaching its finishing point a the Muskogee Civic Center.

Be sure to find your way to Downtown Muskogee on Friday, October 6th, 2023 at 2:30 to celebrate the Rougher's Homecoming and congratulate this year's Homecoming court. Below is a map showing the designated stage area, finish line, and the parade route.

On Friday, October 6, 2023, Muskogee Public Schools will have an early release for all students. School sites will be released at the following times:

ECC - 12:30 PM

Elementary Schools and Sadler - 1:00 PM

RAA - 1:30 PM

MHS, RIA, 6/7 Academy, 8/9 Academy - 1:45 PM

There will be no student shuttles on Friday, October 6th.

MPS Invites Community to Attend District Showcase

Muskogee Public Schools will host the 2023 District Showcase on Friday, October 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to present recently renovated and newly built facilities throughout the district. The event will include tours and ribbon cuttings of the Fine Arts addition at Muskogee High School and the fully renovated Sadler Arts Academy. The event will culminate with a State of the District address from MPS Superintendent Dr. Jarod Mendenhall.

Varsity Football Safety Protocols

The safety and security of Muskogee Public Schools’ students, employees, and fans remains the district’s top priority. In an effort to create an environment where all spectators can enjoy varsity football games with a sense of security and well-being, Muskogee Public Schools will implement the following additional safety and security measures beginning Friday, September 8, 2023.

MHS Varsity Football Hosts Enid at Rougher Village for Season Opener

Muskogee High School Football will face Enid for the 2023 season home opener on Friday, August 25 at 7 p.m. All home games this season will take place at the fully completed Rougher Village Stadium on the high school campus.

Caring Van to Offer Free Vaccines at 6th and 7th Academy

The Oklahoma Caring Van will be at Muskogee 6th & 7th Grade Academy at Ben Franklin this Thursday, August 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. They will be providing immunizations to students at no cost. Parent or guardian must complete all paperwork.

MPS Board of Education Approves Hiring of High School Principals

The Muskogee Public Schools Board of Education approved the appointment of two Muskogee High School site administrators for the upcoming 2023-24 school year during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, July 18. 

Kinsey Cook, currently assistant principal at Muskogee High School, has been named principal of the high school. Brad Huddleston, currently life coach at the high school, has been named assistant principal at the high school.

Rougher Football 2023 Season Tickets Available for Purchase July 24

Reserved football season tickets for the 2023 season will be available for purchase at the Rougher Spirit Store located inside the main entry to the new Rougher Village Arena on the campus of Muskogee High School.

Season ticket holders from last season will have the right of first refusal beginning Monday, July 24. On Monday, August 7, all non-purchased tickets will be available to the public.

Anderson, Vasquez Named 2023 MPS Teacher of the Year

A first in district history, two educators have been named the 2023 District Teacher of the Year. The decision results from an unbreakable tie following three rounds of evaluations where both Lakeya Anderson and Jeanette Vasquez demonstrated high levels of professionalism and a support of the district’s vision and goals.

 MHS Robotics Team to Make Debut Appearance at World Tournament in Houston

Students from the Muskogee High School robotics team will be among the first to represent the school in a debut appearance at a world tournament mid April in Houston, Texas. Building on more than a decade of award-winning competition at the state level, the team anticipates a strong performance at the competition. 

MHS Announces 2023 Honor Graduates

Muskogee High School has announced the Class of 2023 Honor Graduates including the Stern Award Winner and McEntee Award Winner. All 20 honor graduates will be recognized during the graduation ceremony in May. 

MHS Robotics Team Heads to State

Students from the Muskogee High School robotics team will compete at the State Robotics Championship on the campus of Oklahoma State University later this month.

MPS Announces College Tournament, First Large Event at New Rougher Village Arena

Within 90 days of its completion, Muskogee Public Schools will host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region II Men’s and Women’s Division I Basketball Tournament at the new arena at Rougher Village. The tournament is part of the NJCAA championship events and will take place March 8 through March 11.

MPS Invites Community to Attend Arena Ribbon Cutting and Open House

Muskogee Public Schools invites the community to attend the Rougher Village Arena Ribbon Cutting and Open House on Sunday, January 15 at 2 p.m. The event will include a brief program featuring remarks from MPS Superintendent Dr. Jarod Mendenhall, MPS School Board President Larry Stewart and City of Muskogee Mayor Marlan Coleman followed by an official ribbon cutting. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facility and enjoy light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public. 

Community Invited to Rougher Rally and Bonfire

Muskogee High School will host the Rougher Rally and Bonfire on Thursday, November 17 at 6 p.m. to generate excitement ahead of the varsity football quarter-final game. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place on the high school campus south of the softball field.

MHS Air Force JROTC Ranks Third in State Color Guard Tournament

Muskogee High School Air Force JROTC Unit-071 brought home the first trophy in over 20 years from the Oklahoma State Color Guard Tournament. Composed of an all-female team, the MHS single gender team placed third in the state during the Saturday, October 29 competition. The MHS mixed gender team went 2-2 for their inaugural appearance at the competition. 

MPS Debuts New Rougher Dog Emoji

The Muskogee Public Schools Department of Communication and Marketing has debuted a new visual representation of the district’s mascot. The Rougher Dog Emoji is an official extension of the district’s visual brand that allows the mascot to more fully embody and express the student body and appeal to younger students and upper class students alike.
