This comprehensive framework provides professional development that builds an understanding of the best practices and strategies designed to create a literacy rich environment. These skills reinforce the importance that literacy plays in motivating students to read, which in turn affects academic achievement. Ongoing monitoring of student achievement includes assessment of student phonological awareness skills, phonics understanding, spelling stages, reading comprehension, and fluency. Coaching days for teachers are an integral part of our literacy program, as well.
STAR Assessment – Renaissance Learning
Renaissance Star Assessments delivers reliable screening, progress monitoring, and student growth data that enables our teachers to make informed decisions.
Renaissance Star Early Literacy - helps determine a student’s command of phonemic awareness, phonics, and other literacy and numeracy skills in less than 20 minutes. Educators can intervene faster and provide students with effective instruction during the most critical years of their literacy development. Early intervention is the single best predictor for future success, particularly in reading and language acquisition. Star Early Literacy allows educators to assess students’ foundational reading, language and vocabulary, and numeracy skills in key domains down to the sub-skill level.
Renaissance Star Reading - assesses a broad range of reading skills and then identifies where each student is on a learning progression aligned to Oklahoma grade-level standards. Educators have the powerful data and deep insights they need to help all students develop the skills they need to achieve their goals and accelerate growth. By providing a clear picture of each student’s reading abilities and suggesting resources matched to specific needs, Star Reading helps educators to better guide instruction and encourage students to: read widely and deeply, discern meaning from text, make connections with literary and informational texts.
