Samuel L. Sadler
Samuel L. Sadler was born in Denison, Texas in 1882. He earned a Master's Degree from the University of Iowa. He was the prinicipal of Manual Training High School here in Muskogee from 1925 to 1945. Sadler Arts Academy is currently housed in the building that was built in 1953 for the black high school students. This wonderful arts magnet school is named in his honor. We will embark on a journey to discover more about the man who left a legacy that we are a part of today. We will study the culture and history that was Samuel L. Sadler. Students will explore the history of Muskogee's 2nd Street District, current and past famous African Americans from Oklahoma and our nation, an African study, the civil rights movement, black history, the civil war, emancipation, and a celebration of unity.
