MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Muskogee Public Schools is proud to announce outstanding results from the 2026 OSSAA State Jazz Competition. The Muskogee High School Jazz Combo has been named the 2026 6A Jazz Combo State Champions.
Under the direction of Joseph Barger, Muskogee’s jazz programs delivered an impressive showing across all levels of competition. The 9th Grade Jazz Band earned Excellent ratings, while the Muskogee High School Jazz Band and Jazz Combo both received Superior ratings—representing the highest possible distinction from OSSAA judges.
The championship finish by the Jazz Combo marks a significant milestone for the program and reflects the dedication and musicianship of its student performers.
Members of the 2026 State Champion Jazz Combo include Ivan Larios, Erick Solis, Braiden Martinez, Gabe McCurdy, and Maliyah Nicholson.
In addition to the combo’s first-place finish, the Muskogee High School Jazz Band continues its tradition of excellence, earning Superior ratings at state competition for the third consecutive year, an achievement that reflects sustained high-level performance and consistency within the program.
“This is a reflection of the work happening every day in our band programs across the district,” said Harvey Price, Director of Fine Arts. “Mr. Barger and his students continue to set a standard of excellence through their commitment, discipline, and musicianship. We are incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished at the state level.”
As the program continues to build on this momentum, Muskogee Bands celebrate not only a state championship, but a culture of excellence that continues to grow year after year.
